A New Coastal Home in Guilderton, Western Australia
Around ninety minutes north of Perth, in the Shire of Gin Gin, the small coastal town of Guilderton is home to the Moore River, where sweeping white sand beaches meet tranquil estuary habitats. Perched atop a hill of sand and limestone loam, this new-build residential home takes advantage of ocean views to the west, coastline to the north, and bushland to the south — framing these moments rather than exposing everything at once.
Passive Design for a Harsh Coastal Climate
The home is positioned toward the rear south corner of the site, prioritising a north-facing garden, with every window and glass door considered for view, prevailing wind, light, and privacy. Understanding a roof form and material palette that provides shade and wind protection in exposed coastal conditions was central to the design — resulting in rammed earth walls paired with natural, treated timber and metal cladding.
